Into Africa: New Partnerships in an Ancient Land
The Conservancy is entering Africa — partnering with African conservation groups to protect crucial corridors and habitat throughout that continent. "Working with on-the-ground partners will allow us to make rapid conservation gains without wasting a lot of time and money," says Sanjayan, one of the Conservancy's lead scientists. The Conservancy's initial work spans five countries and will infuse $5 million directly into key partnership initiatives over the next two years.

Ask the Conservationist: Fire and Mercury
How do you set a controlled burn near a forest? (And why would you want to?) And how does a metal like mercury get into the atmosphere, much less travel hundreds of miles? Those are the questions this go-round for Ask the Conservationist, our monthly Q&A with some of the 720 staff scientists of The Nature Conservancy. And when you're done reading, send us your question!
