Attack and Rescue on Santa Cruz Island
On May 19, the two eagle chicks on Santa Cruz Island — stars of the live nest cam featured on nature.org — were attacked by another eagle. A viewer alerted scientists on the island, who raced to the site and rescued them. While both eaglets suffered injuries, biologist Peter Sharpe of the Institute for Wildlife Studies says they should recover.
