Why Nature

Nothing soothes me like nature. Whether listening to the flow of a stream or absorbing a sunny meadow, nature makes me feel good. Moving through the forests, up and down hills, until my daily to-do list mind fades to the background -- that simple pleasure sets a tone of happiness that sticks with me.

Nothing rouses me like the great outdoors. At this time in my life, what gets me up in the morning is the opportunity to go out in the wild to play. Heck, anticipating outdoor adventure even keeps me up at night!

Since I get so much from the earth, nature, and the environment and since the wild doesn't exactly have a profit center of its own, I think its important to direct a portion of personal and company funds to the conservation of open spaces.

Why Nature Conservancy

The Nature Conservancy goes about its business in the most straightforward, capitalistic way. It buys up land (and easements, licenses) to preserve as open space.

The Nature Conservancy (TNC) is pragmatic in that it works with ranchers, farmers, loggers -- essentially other people who are also interested in nature for a variety of reasons. Bringing people together in a way that nature is used but not abused is a strength of the TNC.

TNC is international in scope, yet has abundant projects in California -- my home base.

Finally, TNC is not litigious. Its not about lawsuits, lobbying and protests. It is about land management that works to keep treasured spaces open to soothe our souls and rouse our imagination to adventure.
