Imagine a place where you can see rainbows almost everyday, play in gentle to giant surf, hike under waterfalls, see exotic flowers everywhere and even wear them around your neck. Or see whales, dolphins and sea turtles. And even in the city, be surrounded by magnificent, huge old trees.

This place exists, of course. It's where I was fortunate enough to have grown up! Unfortunately, it's slowly being destroyed. Every year another high-rise is slapped up, urban sprawl envelopes more of my island and yet another invasive species arrives on Hawaii's shores to threaten the endemic flora and fauna.

For me, it's not only about preserving nature. It's about preserving my past. Things always change, of course, but it saddens me to think that things may never be as they were. The physical destruction of my island, is the symbolic destruction of my spirit. Please act before it's too late. Let's treasure nature, where we come from and who we are...

Thank you for your generous donation to my favorite cause (unfortunately, I cannot earmark the funds for use in Hawaii, but let's trust the Nature Conservancy to use them where they are most needed).

Me ke aloha pumehana,

Paul
