Climate change is upon us. The impacts are already being felt in Oregon and across the world. There is a path to a better future but we MUST enact policies to combat climate change and invest in the resilience of our communities.
Oregon legislators are currently considering passage of House Bill 2020 to create the “Oregon Climate Action Program.” The Oregon Climate Action Program would cap and price greenhouse gas emissions in Oregon, create good-paying jobs in every county and invest in the restoration of our forests, rivers and streams to protect air and water quality and lessen the risk of catastrophic wildfire.
Commonly referred to as a “Cap-and-Trade” or “Cap-and-Invest,” the Oregon Climate Action Program:
Together, we can protect the air we breathe, the water we drink and the communities in which we live. Please use this form to contact your representative in support of House Bill 2020 and the Oregon Climate Action Program.
Pass House Bill 2020 and Create the Oregon Climate Action Program
In Oregon, we are already experiencing the impacts of climate change. From catastrophic wildfires to longer droughts, Oregon's climate is changing, putting our communities, economies and lives at risk. There is no time to waste. We must accelerate the pace of climate action and start investing in our communities NOW.We know there are changes to come to House Bill 2020 but we like what see so far.
Please support passage of House Bill 2020 with:>> Strong emission reduction targets;>> No exemptions or delays;>> An emergency clause to start work on the Oregon Climate Action Program as soon as possible; and>> Dedicate 40 percent of the funding in a long-term plan to invest in and restore our forests, rivers and working lands to further reduce emissions, increase carbon sequestration and build resilience to climate change.
The cost of doing nothing to prevent and adapt to climate change is too high and a risk to all Oregonians. Seven in 10 Oregon voters, like me, support this step forward for Oregon. I encourage you to take strong action now and support HB 2020.
